How do I get Started

Free-to-play

players will find themselves in Lumbridge, in the southern part of Misthalin. It’s a good idea to get your bearings in Lumbridge before heading off into the wider lands. The people here are friendly and willing to help, the enemies are common but relatively weak, and there’s plenty to do and train your skills on. From here you can start to improve on those skills; visit the shops, windmill and castle; kill some goblins or start a quest.

The shops in Lumbridge give free items – a sample of what the shops have for sale. There is a limit to the number of times you can receive these free items in a short period, but they are useful for replacing the odd fishing rod or pickaxe that has been lost.

It is also not a bad idea to talk to the Lumbridge Sage, who can give you some useful information about the history of Lumbridge, or directions if needed. He is located just outside the Chapel, in front of the castle.

Members

Members begin their RuneScape journey in Burthorpe where an invasion is being held off. This is a guided tutorial and various characters and tutors will walk you through a series of tasks. These tasks will introduce you to each area of the game, giving you specific and optional things to do.

The map to the right shows the key locations in Burthorpe and the table below shows what each map icon means. You can find out more about the map icons in World Map. Taverley’s points of interest are shown further down the page.

Outer Walls

A vast wall bounds the edges of the areas considered to be the ‘starting area’ for players. Guards keep watch at a number of gaps in the wall, warning anyone with a total skill level of below 60 that they are about to cross into more dangerous areas. Adventurers of a higher level are free to pass without incident.

A similar warning will be given to any lower-level player who enters a dungeon that leads out of the starting area.
